I am currently a 3rd year Coordinator of International Relations (CIR) at the Fukuoka International Association (Fukuoka City) and 2nd year Prefectural Advisor (PA).
As a CIR, I translate and help edit the bi-monthly English newsletter “Rainbow” and write a bilingual column, “Emily’s Notes from the Nakagawa,” for the Fukuoka International Association’s monthly email magazine. I also assist in various international exchange activities between organizations in Fukuoka City and local citizens, as well as sister city exchange programs with several of Fukuoka’s sister cities such as Oakland (USA), Ipoh (Malaysia), and Busan (South Korea).
As a PA, I work with the four Fukuoka City CIRs and assist in planning and coordinating CIR meetings held several times each year. However, ALTs are more than welcome to contact me with questions they may have about living and working in Japan.
I am from Ohio in the US and attended university in New York City, where I studied Japanese and East Asian Languages and Cultures. I spent my third year of university at the Kyoto Consortium for Japanese Studies (KCJS) in Kyoto City, an amazing experience that helped prompt my decision to apply to the JET Programme. I love to study languages, learn about new cultures, and meet new people, all of which I’ve been able to do while here.
I hope you all have fun, positives experiences in Fukuoka and Japan!
