Getting There

By train…

– Take the Nishitetsu Tenjin-Omuta line to Ogori station. By car: Use the E-W Highway (Chikugo-Ogori exit and head west), Routes 500, 88, and 737.

Fukagawa serves fusion Japanese and foreign cuisine on two floors. There’s always a set of specials displayed to make ordering easy, and a good selection of wine to accompany your meal.

To find it, exit Nishitetsu Ogori Station and turn right. It’s about a two-minute walk and then a sharp left at Taiko yakitori on the left side. 1-10-10-2F Gion. 6-11pm • 0942-72-4656 • ¥¥

Nobu is the town gaijin hangout with fabulous decor. Owner and Chef Yoichi creates unique haute cuisine mixing Japanese favorites with foreign spices, sauces, and ingredients.

Taiko specializes in motsu nabe but also offers tasty and reasonably priced yakitori.

Tontei is a local treasure for their amazing curry tonkatsu donburi. Offering other tonkatsu and donburi dishes, their lunch sets are affordable and very filling.

Cool Club Bar, next to Fukagawa, has the best cocktails in Ogori-shi and the cheapest food around- salads and French fries are just ¥100. Relax with friends in the spacious atmosphere; there are two rooms plus a karaoke room in the back. 1-10-9 Gion. 7pm-close • 0942-73-1316 • ¥

Merveille lures customers to its cozy pub with electronic dart machines. Score 500 points (men) or 450 points (ladies) and you get a free set of darts.

grocery stores

The Nishitetsu Store a block to the left of Ogori Station and Marché, down the main drag from the station and on the right at the first stoplight, are the two largest supermarkets in Ogori. Marche has a 100-yen store on the upper levels.
