Paying Bills

You can pay bills in different ways.

Automatic withdrawal (jid?koza) allows utility costs to be deducted automatically from your personal bank account. Most keitai companies insist on this type of payment.  As for electricity, gas or phone bills, you can register when you sign up for service or when your first bill arrives.

An easy way to pay is to go to any convenience store.  They handle payments of bar-coded bills for most electric and gas companies!

If you have to pay apartment rent or other bills, you probably pay for them at a bank or post office payment counter (furikomi madoguchi) before 3 or 4pm, respectively.

For final bills, you can pay a collector (???????shukinnin ni shiharau), usually sent by each utility company to clock what you have used.
