Dentists

National health insurance generally covers dental emergencies only (filling repairs, root canals, etc.), not maintenance (cleaning) or cosmetic procedures.

Here are some dentists recommended by Fukuoka JETs.

Okamura Dental Clinic Hakata

Dr. Okamura received his dental degrees in the US and speaks English proficiently. His clinic is easily accessible, just a stone’s throw beyond the Chikushi-guchi exit at Hakata Station.

Asaoka Dental Clinic Tenjin

Accepts insurance for cleaning. Ask for Eri Hashimoto who studied abroad in Australia.

Mon-Fri 9:30am-1:30pm & 2pm- 7pm; Sat 9:30am-1:30pm.

Kanetou Dental Clinic  Nishijin

Dr. Kanetou is a dentist/oral surgeon who studied abroad and speaks good English.
His assistants do not speak very much English, but will not flinch if cold-called by a foreigner.
This office is usually booked tight, however for first visits or emergencies the doctor usually fits prospective patients in for an appointment within the hour.
Walk-ins are not turned away, but it is quite easy to call the office at  092-822-7181 to make an appointment in advance.

Kotani Dental Clinic Kokura

Dr. Kotani speaks English and is incredibly kind. His office is outfitted with several modern dental instruments that most Japanese dental clinics lack. Located in Kokura near Mihagino. Open Weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Closed Sunday & Holidays.
